Back in the day, a handful of helicopter tour companies offered night flights over the Las Vegas Strip. Fast forward to the present and I’m now referring friends, family and clients to just one. I can’t explain the scarcity but I can say this: The company that’s providing these tours today is one of the finest in operation.
Strip rides aren’t the cheapest activity in town. But they are most definitely the most fun, thrilling and memorable. Besides, this is Vegas, baby! Not Podunk, USA. We’re talking about one of the world’s most famous skylines, the likes of which are unrivalled anywhere on the planet. If there was ever a time to take a chopper ride on a lark, it’s the one that flies over this fabulous City of Entertainment.
Currently, I’m only recommending Maverick Helicopters for this tour. There are other bit players hawking cheaper flights. But you know the old adage, “You get what you pay for.” Copter trips are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Why bet it all on one-aircraft operators that treat the experience like a bad carnival ride? Speaking for myself, I’m looking for quality as much as I am price.
Maverick, on the other hand, is the proud owner of the largest fleet of EcoStar 130′s in the world. These exquisite aircraft feature up to 25 percent more cabin space and are equipped with theater-style seats, 180-degree wraparound windshields and Fenestron rotor technology that makes these birds purr like a cat.
Maverick’s heliport is minutes away from all major Las Vegas Strip hotels, and each of their Vegas night flights come with free shuttle service! This isn’t an aberration. This is how Maverick does business, which is 5-star all the way from their customer service reps and pilots to their deluxe aircraft and value-packed tours.
Night flights come with up to 15 minutes of airtime. This is the standard deal, and you will see all the key sights, including the Stratosphere tower, the Bellagio Fountains, Paris’ Eiffel Tower, New York New York’s skyscrapers, MGM’s Emerald City, and the Luxor pyramid’s light beam. You’ll also get incredible views of Mt. Charleston, the Sheep Mountains, Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Fremont Street Experience, Nellis Air force Base, a number of championship golf courses.
Papillon Helicopters’ is the only other Strip air tour I recommend. Their prices are incredibly affordable. The only caveat is they don’t offer night flights. In addition to that, they do a limited number of day flights. Rule of thumb is if you do the Strip during daytime, you’ll save money. But understand that you’ll need to RSVP these trips immediately as supply is limited and sell-outs are frequent (your best shot is a 72-hour advanced booking).
