50-Minute South Rim Helicopter Tour

50-Minute Helicopter Ride

If you're going to take a South Rim helicopter tour, by all means do Maverick's 50-minute Canyon Spirit.

Sure, it's more expensive than the 30-minute Canyon Dancer, but you see so much more. And by this I mean up to 75 percent of the National Park!

That's an incredible amount of wilderness to see in less than 60 minutes.

And it's worth every second, too.

Itinerary

This flight takes off daily from Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCA), which is located in Tusayan near the Park's South Rim entrance (here's a Google Map showing location).

First, you fly over the Kaibab Plateau and along the edge of the South Rim until you reach the Park's eastern boundary. Then you bank north and POW you are into the Canyon!

Yes, it's that dramatic and words just don't do it justice.

The vistas are unparalleled, and you'll see not only the Desert Watchtower but also the Painted Desert and the Vermillion Cliffs near the Utah border!

Past the Colorado Confluence (where the little and big Colorado Rivers meet) and Imperial Point, you'll head west over the isolated North Rim, where reportedly a herd of buffalo roams.

You bank again south and through the Dragoon Corridor, the widest and deepest section of the Canyon before making your descent over Grand Canyon Village.

Folks, this is one of the most satisfying aerial sightseeing tours offered on the planet. I hope you get a chance to experience it.
